Winemakers: Domaine du Petit Oratoire

Beginning his wine-making career at a very early age with educational stints in Burgundy, Alsace and Champagne, producer Lori Haon ventured off on his own in 2016 when he was just 23 years old to take over a plot of (what began as) 15 hectares in the small village of Valliguières in the department of Gard, bordering the Southern Rhône region. The expansive domaine—now 23 hectares—encompasses a large array of terroirs (limestone, sandstone, schist) as well as a minimum of thirteen red and white, appellation and non-appellation varieties at any given time. The vines are quality-over-quantity driven in terms of production, are worked very minimally, and are often treated with homemade recipes, including essential oils and herbal mixtures.

This low-intervention approach continues in the cellar, where the grapes undergo a straight-forward vinification process in concrete (without the use of carbonic maceration or any extreme extraction methods). The result: incredibly balanced cuvées that are light, fun, and (too-)easy-drinking.
